Finally, I don't have hydrocal dust to deal with. All sanding work is done. The walls have been sealed and painted. It should be all fun from this point forward.

I am falling behind with my posts again. As of now the boat repair building has already been delivered to the owner. I would be shipping the rest of the kit this week hadn't I messed up lighthouse head glass. I got a spot of Dulcote on it. All attempts to fix it made it worse so I am re-doing the glass. Keep fingers crossed...

Project Update: Mill Housing by Microscale Models

My second vacation this summer is over and I am back at my workbench. Besides couple of projects I have already mentioned I am working on yet another one. It is Mill Housing kit by Microscale Models. I started it before my first vacation in June and up until now I didn't have much to show. I have been asked to make buildings a little run down and I am hoping I am doing exactly that.

The eBay is such weird place. It is like some kind of wormhole where people senses and minds get distorted. Otherwise it is hard to find an explanation for the following. One of the sellers lists FSM Skinner's for $590 what I find to be outrageously expensive. Then he does a sale and drops price to $530. Still way too high but someone buys it. I could say that person wanted the kit really bad but at the same time there was another auction with buy now for $450. He could have bought this one instead and saved some greens. Go figure...
On another note, it seems Bar Mills folks are returning to their roots. After some wandering around for a few years they are back to what I like them for. If you don't know what I am talking about go and check out their Dunphy's and Curry's kits.
Since this post is the Tidewater project update I should say few words about it shouldn't I. Here it goes. The Sailmaker and restaurant combo is finished. I'll need to make some kind of pedestal for the boat repair shop. Its loading door drops below the base. Although I don't have a picture but the lighthouse is now sitting on rock base and waiting for its top to be finished. I am getting really close. I think I would be done by now if I had fewer distractions like the World Cup, vacation and honey do list. Go Netherlands!

Unlike laser cut kits hydrocal ones come in very big boxes. The castings themselves don't take that much space but all bubble wrap does. I have been looking at few hydrocal kits I have thinking that I should build one or two and free the space they are taking. It so happened that recently I received an offer to build Gugisberg & Sons Machining kit for someone else layout and I had the kit on my shelf. I have accepted the offer and although not much but I have some progress to show. I should mention also that until today I had not noticed that I had the structure upside down when I took a shot.

Project Update: Finescale Miniatures JS-13 Elijah Roth & Sons

It is no secret I sell my models after I finish them. The Elijah Roth is no exception. I scored some records with it trying to sell it on eBay. It had 200+ views and 30 watchers. Despite that my diorama didn't sell. There is no surprise though. Historical data shows that craftsman kit prices are the lowest around this time of year. Perhaps I would be better off if I held on to diorama until later this year but I had to try.
Speaking of eBay watchers, they are not an indicator of any kind. I place in my watch list all kits that I have interest in. However, that may mean I simply want to record sale in a spreadsheet. I found it to be kind of funny when one seller was going crazy because people were watching his auction and not bidding. It was one of Sierra West kits still available from Bret at the time and asking price was way above what Bret was selling for. It had no chance of selling although I've seen some surprises in the past. Nonetheless I would add the auction to my list every time it started. At first just to collect historical data, then I found listings to be entertaining. I am sure other people have different reasons for watching. I would love to find out how many are waiting to see if I will drop the price. I have no intentions to do so. The diorama is taking up shelf space that I could use for something else but I don't have to feed it so it can sit there as long as it takes...
Besides some pictures this time I have a video too. I am not sure how well it shows lighting effects. I made it in a hurry but hopefully it is enough to give an idea.
