Building The Waterfront by Bulders in Scale Pt.4

I went to LHS yesterday to see if they had few things for my projects. Ironically earlier in a day someone bought a stack of Jordan vehicles that had been sitting for months. All they had left was Woody and I wanted couple of trucks. On the way out I saw a diorama in a display case that caught my eye. At first I thought it was scratch built but then I saw the sign on the front of the main building with the Dobbs in the name. After digging in my memory for a bit I decided that it was Master Creations Fred C. Dobbs Mining Supply kit. Then I noticed another diorama and it was Railhead Saloon kit. I saw box art of both kits in the past but they never caught my attention. It is quite different seeing them built in person. In general Master Creations kits are on the odd side and the consensus is that they are impossible or very difficult to build but I may consider tackling such project in the future.
As far as The Waterfront kit goes it is still work in progress.

Where do the structures I build go Pt.3

This morning I have few pictures of Gritty McDuff's and some of the Raglan Road structures installed on the layout.

Building Tucker & Cook by South River Modelworks Pt.3

I have missed a number of modeling nights over the past few weeks for various reasons so last night was no brainier. There is no way I would give up modeling for Super Bowl. I am not anti sports at all but I am more home team fan. Once home team is out of the competition this is where it all stops.
I have made decent progress last night. I wish I could have done more but the shingles eat up time very fast. I still have quite a bit of weathering to do and few other things there and there. It would be good time to start making diorama though. I have the footprints of all of the buildings already. I just can't come up with anything interesting yet. Perhaps because my mind has been occupied with other thoughts lately. It seems even  swimming or walking in the woods doesn't clear my head of everyday stuff. Real life sometimes does catch up with you doesn't it.

Building Tucker & Cook by South River Modelworks Pt.2

A number years ago I used to build models step by step following the instructions. If glue had to dry I waited before proceeding further. However, many times I would run out of patience and move one before it had a chance to dry properly. Because of that many times I would get in a mess and the end result would not be what I hoped for. The progress was very slow as well. Then I came up with the idea of building several sub-assemblies at the same time. The way it works is that if I can't continue one sub-assembly because glue needs to dry then I work on another one. Things got much smoother since then and I move forward much faster. I work the same way on the Tucker kit. The kit is big with nearly endless count of possible parallel tasks thus creating a challenge of timing them right. For the most part I have been doing fine so far but once in a while I miscalculate. For example, I could have had roof shell finished last night but glue oozed out while gluing two pre-painted parts. I cleaned the glue off. However, the color changed and the parts needed to be repainted and re-weathered. It was easy and quick task but had 24 hour drying time. That meant I couldn't continue working on the roof. Had I done this task day or two ago I would have been able to proceed. Thanks to my building style though I simply continued working on another part instead of watching some dumb show on TV for the rest of the night.

Building The Waterfront by Bulders in Scale Pt.3

It seems The Saltbox is stuck on the back-burner and it may stay there for some time until I am out of any parallel paths to progress the kit further. For the time being I've decided to take and post some pictures.

Building Shady Grove Texaco by Bar Mills Pt.1

This is the second kit from my small kit series. It seems these days Bar Mills put all of their kits into same size boxes. What that means is that no matter how big kit is it takes the same amount of space on your shelf. Therefore building smaller kits you can free up the space faster. You can adapt this strategy to relieve spouse pressure when it is building up because you have too many kits.

Building The Magic Shop by FOS Scale Models Pt. N

I have been working on the Magic Shop on and off for the past few months. All I need is to finish painting the lamps and install cross bracing for the big sign. The problem is that I've run out of pre-painted stripwood and I don't remember what paint did I use. I realize that my memory isn't getting better and I need to start making notes. I'll do that starting with the next kit. Meanwhile I need to paint few test pieces. I have quite a collection of greens but like ones more than the others so it narrows the search a little. Eventually I will get through this. I am guessing when I will get into "I must to complete 2 or 3 unfinished kits before I start anything new" mode.
